Actually what Alistair captured was the reflection of the Elizabeth Tower, as Big Ben refers to the big bell inside the iconic clock tower in London. But such is the popularity of the nickname that most people visualize the tower with its clocks.
The tower holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower. The tower was completed in 1858 and had its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009.
Alistair used his Samsung Galaxy NX 300 to get this image of a the Tower and the city of London waking up to the first working day of 2014. Click on the image to see more pictures from Alistair.
